A 600-meter twisting steel lattice tower — the city's skyline icon and, at its 488m outdoor deck, the highest open-air observation platform anywhere. The Bubble Tram and Sky Drop ride are ticketed separately if you want more than the view.
Tip: The 433m indoor deck is cheaper and still has the whole skyline — skip the 450/488m upsell unless you want the open-air deck specifically.

Eat: Yum Cha (Dim Sum)
Guangzhou invented this ritual: bottomless tea and small steamer baskets of shrimp dumplings, barbecued pork buns, and dozens of other bite-sized dishes, ordered continuously through a long, unhurried brunch. Har gow — pleated, translucent shrimp dumplings — is the dish to judge a place by. Any teahouse with trolleys or order-sheets and a weekend queue of local families.

The Li River Cruise
The classic: a 4-5 hour cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo past the karst peaks that inspired centuries of Chinese ink painting (and the back of the ¥20 note). Mist, bamboo, water buffalo, and a thousand green pinnacles drifting by. It's the single most iconic river journey in China.
Tip: Sit on the upper deck and bring a light layer — mornings on the river are cool and often misty (which only makes it more beautiful).

Eat: Guilin Rice Noodles
The city's breakfast institution: chewy rice noodles in a savory broth built on a secret spice-and-herb stock, topped with braised beef or pork, peanuts, pickled green beans, and scallion.
