Bao'an (SZX) is straightforward as Chinese mega-airports go — one main terminal and a direct metro line into Futian. Here's what actually happens between the jet bridge and the taxi rank.
Immigration and customs
Same process as other major Chinese airports: fill out the arrival card on the plane if offered, then most foreign arrivals aged 14+ pass through an automated fingerprint-and-photo kiosk before the immigration counter. - Which terminal will I land at in Shenzhen?
- Almost certainly Terminal 3 — it's the main international terminal at Bao'an, recognizable by its distinctive honeycomb-patterned ceiling. Terminal 3 also houses the Ground Transport Centre for the airport express bus.
- Is the metro or a taxi better from Shenzhen airport?
- Metro Line 11 (the Airport Express) is the cheapest way into Futian CBD at 45–60 minutes, but it stops running around 10:30pm. If you land late or you're carrying luggage for multiple people, a taxi or DiDi is the more reliable choice — traffic-dependent but door to door.
- Do I need cash for the airport bus or metro?

- Is there a ferry from Shenzhen airport to Hong Kong?
- Yes, but it's narrower than it sounds — the Fuyong Ferry Terminal at Bao'an runs same-day transfer service to Hong Kong Airport's SkyPier (four sailings daily, 40–50 minutes), and it's only for passengers with a connecting flight booked through that system, not a general-purpose way to visit Hong Kong. If you just want to reach Hong Kong itself rather than transfer through its airport, the land border crossings (or a direct bus) are the standard route, not this ferry.
